Het Nederlands elftal is op de nieuwe wereldranglijst van wereldvoetbalbond FIFA naar de tweede plaats gestegen. De ploeg van Marco van Basten passeerde Argentinië. Het is de hoogste klassering van Oranje in meer dan tien jaar. Voor de nieuwe lijst zijn de vriendschappelijke- en WK-kwalificatiewedstrijden van de afgelopen tijd meegeteld.
